TO BE 12 AGAIN

How things have changed since I was twelve. For a whole year I was twelve and guess what, I had no deficiencies, or so I thought. Now, join me – WE may have a Vitamin B-12 deficiency and we only know it by the symptoms from our body and how we react to them. If you are feeling stressed and depressed on occasion, then this is one reason to read on…

Vitamin B-12 is a powerhouse. It helps make DNA, keeps nerve and blood cells healthy, and is crucial for a healthy brain and immune system. Your metabolism wouldn’t run smoothly without it and it helps maintain the health of the nervous system and spinal cord and may prevent megaloblastic anemia. I have followed research showing vitamin B-12 being used for heart disease, depression, weak bones, sleep disorders, diabetes, swollen tendons, asthma, memory loss and Vitamin B-12 is one of the eight B vitamins needed to convert carbohydrates into glucose in the body, leading to energy production and decrease in fatigue and lethargy.

Holy cow, is it possible that Vitamin B-12 could be that important?

Why is this Unique?

Note that Vitamin B-12 isn’t like other vitamins. It’s only found in animal products like fish, meat, eggs, shellfish, and dairy. Many people just don’t get enough B-12, and they’re more likely to be an adult over 50, a vegetarian, have celiac disease or other digestion problems.

I hope that you will understand why it was so exciting to add this water-soluble Vitamin B-12 that keeps our nerves and red blood cells healthy to our portfolio

B-12 plays an important role in white blood cell production, and white blood cells are essential for proper immune system functioning. Not only can a lack of B-12 lower your immunity, some immune system disorders can increase your likelihood of becoming deficient.

Signs of Deficiency

The signs of vitamin B-12 deficiency include exhaustion/fatigue, rapid heartbeat, brain fog, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, depression, soreness of the mouth, asthma, vision problems, low sperm count, low blood pressure, diabetes, Crohn’s disease, HIV positive, take prescription antacids are vegans or strict vegetarians.

Vitamin B12 occurs naturally in animal products. So if your diet largely consists of plant-based foods such as fruits, veggies, beans, and soy, you’re at risk for deficiency. Please note: our body can store B-12 for three to five years, so symptoms of a deficiency may appear gradually, and you may not even notice them. If you start to experience things like fatigue, weakness, and brain fog set in, or more signs such as numbness and tingling of the limbs, depression, and paranoia, even hallucinations a deficiency may be considered certain.

As we age, depletion of your vitamin B-12 leads to nerve damage. No wonder we feel like pins and needles in your hands and feet, shaky body movements, and trouble walking as these may be from of long-term B-12 deficiency.

Are you Over 50? Then You’re at Risk

As you age, the stomach produces less acid, and stomach acid is key for B-12 absorption. If you have any of the signs and are over 50 then you may be deficient according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As we age, we often have poorer appetites and food intakes, or you may be on medications (such as heartburn meds) that can further reduce stomach acid levels. If you have been taking certain medication for over two years, researchers found that you may have a 65% higher risk of vitamin B-12 deficiency. Some seniors actually lose the ability to absorb vitamin B-12 from food at all, and must get it via supplements or if the deficiency is severe, injections.

Mistaken for Dementia – Other Concerns

Maybe you or a loved one is showing signs of dementia and it’s just accepted. Boloney – Symptoms of a Vitamin B-12 deficiency often are the same as dementia, such as memory loss, disorientation, and difficulty thinking and reasoning. Up to 90% of people deficient in B-12 also have neurological conditions such as dementia. These folks should be tested for a deficiency.

Vitamin B12 deficiency even affects the Pap test you get at your regular gynecologist checkup to screen for cervical cancer. Low B12 levels can change the way some cervical cells look, potentially triggering a false positive.

There’s a specific type of anemia that’s triggered by a B12 deficiency called pernicious anemia., It is a red blood cell deficiency that happens when the stomach doesn’t make enough of a protein and can be the result of an autoimmune issue, a problem with the stomach lining.

Watch for Visible Signs

Sometimes you’ll notice a paleness, mouth sores, your tongue may be red, swollen, and beefy tongue. Caused by deficiency-related changes in blood flow, these signs can show up years after the depletion sets in. A rapid heartbeat or heart palpitations is another blood flow-related sign, and sometimes bruising easily is also a result of a longstanding Vitamin B-12 deficiency. But these seemingly unrelated signs don’t show in all B-12 deficient people, or they come on very slowly.

The Good News

B12 is a water-soluble vitamin, meaning your body only absorbs a small amount and the rest is excreted through urine. Good news if you worry about taking too much. But keep in mind that large amounts of B-12 at one time may cause diarrhea and all-over itchiness. Read the label and take only the amount recommended by your doctor.

Amazing things happen when we give our body what it needs.
And not so amazing things happen when we don’t.
